“Up Above Moscow” is a cycle of open-air music nights up on a rooftop offering unique views of Moscow. In warm seasons, the performances are staged on the rooftop of the Worker and Kolkhoz Woman pavilion, at the footing of the iconic 24-meter sculpture, a world-renowned symbol of the Soviet Union. At all other times and depending on the weather conditions, the concerts are held on the fourth floor with admission to the rooftop during the break.
A rooftop time at the Worker and Kolkhoz Woman is not only a great outdoor choice but also a chance to expand your music tastes, to add a new angle to your collection of the city’s best sights, and an opportunity to visit all exhibitions currently run by the Exhibition Center.
Music nights at the Worker and Kolkhoz Woman are conducted in two formats, with ‘Rooftop Jazz’ performances on Wednesdays and ‘Electronic Thursdays’ given to electronic musicians and sound designers. The organizer of the project is the Manege Association.

Two happy hours with Big Jazz Orchestra: eternal tunes of the past age of jazz
20:00 – arrival of guests, admission to the rooftop
20:30 – performance
On September 30, the full cast of Big Jazz Orchestra will stage a rooftop performance at the Worker and Kolkhoz Woman Exhibition Center.
The atmosphere of their performances is reminiscent of the days of jazz ‘gold rush’, swing and endless lines to dance clubs.
Re-creating the genuine sound of jazz music using original scores, the musicians render unique programs dedicated to great names of big band jazz including Duke Ellington, Jimmie Lunceford, Dizzy Gillespie, Claude Thornhill and others.
Big Jazz Orchestra is made up of young musicians sharing common views on music; they are students and graduates of the leading musical colleges, particularly the Gnessin Russian Academy of Music and the Moscow State Tchaikovsky Conservatory, they perform as soloists with popular big bands of Moscow and are winners of many jazz competitions and festivals.
The founders of the orchestra are jazz singer Daria Antonova and trumpeter Peter Vostokov. Soon after their debut performance at the Central House of Journalists in Moscow in October 2010, the orchestra was awarded Grand Prix of the 2011 International Usadba Jazz Festival and won a prize of the First International Gnessin Jazz Youth Festival. The orchestra has been a permanent fixture of all Russian and international jazz festivals including All Colors of Moscow Jazz, Jazz at the Hermitage Garden, Russian Stars of World Jazz, Koktebel Jazz Party, Beatlemania and others.
A special place on the orchestra’s schedule is reserved for performances at the iconic Esse Jazz Club and the Central House of Journalists, for which the musicians prepare new programs each month.
Tickets are available at the box offices of the Worker and Kolkhoz Woman and online at the website of Manege and Voxxter.ru. The ticket price also includes admission to exhibitions on the day of the performance.
