LiveStreet with Acoustic Jazz

Project “Up Above Moscow”, program Rooftop Jazz
11 November
20.00

Moscow Department of Culture

Manege Association

“Up Above Moscow” is a cycle of music nights at a venue offering unique views of Moscow. In warm seasons, the performances are staged on the rooftop of the Worker and Kolkhoz Woman pavilion, at the footing of the iconic 24-meter sculpture, a world-renowned symbol of the Soviet Union. At all other times and depending on the weather conditions, the concerts are held on the fourth floor with admission to the rooftop during the break.

Music nights at the Worker and Kolkhoz Woman are conducted in two formats, with ‘Rooftop Jazz’ performances on Wednesdays and ‘Electronic Thursdays’ given to electronic musicians and sound designers. The organizer of the project is the Manege Association.

Rooftop Jazz: LiveStreet

20.00 – arrival of guests; 20.15 – performance

LiveStreet project boasts a strong lineup of musicians with a solid jazz background of both academic as well as stage experience following numerous performances in jam sessions. The band prefers the more intimate acoustic sound, sometimes using equipment, sometimes going without. This freedom of style means the band is perfectly comfortable with nearly all types of venues from small bars to grand festival scenes to night clubs, as the emphasis is not on effects but on virtuosity displayed by all of the band’s members.

Musicians favoring acoustic performances are a special type now rarely found on the musical scene. Even fewer are acoustic jazz performers. A happy coincidence of these two factors makes LiveStreet sound indeed unique. LiveStreet performs not only time-proven compositions but their own pieces as well. The band’s name implies an invitation to a musical dialogue as good neighbors in a vivid music street full of sounds.

The live performance at the Worker and Kolkhoz Woman Center will feature different styles of jazz from swing of the 1930s to bossa nova with bright Brazilian notes to sophisticated bebop and unusual jazz manouche, a blend of swing with ethnic Gypsy music. For those who are only embarking on their journey into jazz, the band has prepared popular pieces arranged as jazz compositions, particularly Mozart’s Turkish March and soundtrack from “The Godfather”.

Lineup: Pavel Zhizhikin – guitar, Alexander Propisnov – guitar

Boris Ivanov – bass, Ilya Kukushkin – percussion, Marat Galeev – clarinet, tenor saxophone.

Tickets are available at the box offices of the Worker and Kolkhoz Woman and online at the website of Manege and Voxxter.ru.
