Private view for the media – 25 January, 16.00; 18.00 – official opening, talk with the collector
On January 5, the Manege Central Exhibition Hall will welcome visitors at the opening of the exhibition of contemporary art Russian World Gallery. Selected Works. The project is organized by the eponymous gallery founded by collector Felix Komarov.
The exposition will feature more than a hundred works by contemporary Russian artists including Oleg Tselkov, Oscar Rabin, Vladimir Nemukhin, Alexander Kosolapov, Leonid Purygin, Oleg Lang and others. Many of them have shared with the collector years of work and friendship. In the 1990s, Felix Komarov began collecting contemporary art and founded a gallery in a prestigious area of New York, on 5th Avenue. Russian World Gallery was the only private gallery in the Museum Mile. It attracted visitors from the art community, as well as celebrities, sportsmen, and politicians. Komarov organized many exhibitions in the USA and Russia. In 2004, the State Tretyakov Gallery and the State Russian Museum in a joint project with Russian World Gallery presented personal exhibitions of Oleg Tselkov, one of the founders of the Soviet non-conformist art. In 2009, the collector contributed to the preparation of an exhibition of Nikolay Makarov at the Tretyakov Gallery. It was with Komarov’s support that the complete catalogue of works by Oleg Lang was published, the last one during the artist’s lifetime.
For the Selected Works exhibition at the Central Manege, Komarov will bring exhibits from his diverse collection including works never shown in public before.
Felix Komarov has been actively involved with the educational and social agenda. He sits on the Boards of Trustees of the Moscow Tchaikovsky Conservatory and the Saint Andrei Rublev Foundation for preservation of cultural, historical and spiritual heritage.
The exhibition will be accompanied by a catalogue.
