Up Above Moscow is a cycle of open-air music nights up on a rooftop offering unique views of Moscow. The dialogue between musicians and their audiences takes place on the rooftop of the Worker and Kolkhoz Woman pavilion, at the footing of the iconic 24-meter sculpture, a world-renowned symbol of the Soviet Union.
A rooftop time at the Worker and Kolkhoz Woman is not only a great outdoor choice for a summer night but also a chance to expand your music tastes, to add a new angle to your collection of the city’s best sights, and an opportunity to visit all exhibitions currently run by the Exhibition Center.
Music nights at the Worker and Kolkhoz Woman are conducted in two formats, with ‘Rooftop Jazz’ performances on Wednesdays and ‘Electronic Thursdays’ given to electronic musicians and sound designers.
Electronic Thursday, August 27, 8pm – 12am: Midimode duo & Ninja Glam
8pm – arrival of guests, admission to the rooftop
8.30pm – performance
The participants of the Midimode duo have walked on a thin line between club style sound and home-listening electronic music. The reason is their equal appreciation of classic IDM and, at the same time, rave, breakbeat and even hardcore. This dualism creates music that can be still described as IDM, though in the original sense, with the “D” standing for “Dance” and live performance meaning synthesizers and samplers.
Ninja Glam launched in 2008 as an anonymous electronic side project of Dmitriy Peitsch, the vocalist and guitarist of Motherfathers band. The following year, the band moved on from the Internet and embarked on active performances, while the lineup transformed into a duo with the arrival of Max Elizarov, also a member of Motherfathers.
The band featured in the international “Noise and Fury” festival at the DOM Cultural Center, numerous raves at MosChaos (Moscow), Ovoshchebaza (Solnechnogorsk), the Platforma Project, the WINZAVOD Contemporary Art Centre and the Moscow Museum of Contemporary Art (as part of the Museum Night). They have performed together with Whourkr, Igorrr, Henri Claudel/Mother Ganga and many other prominent Russian and foreign bands. The band counts six online releases including the soundtrack to a video by Evgeny Granilshchikov called Naturmorti.
The band’s sound have gone through many transformations, evolving from extreme deconstructionist joke of electronic music to electro and minimalists beats to abstract hip-hop and experimental trap performed by the current lineup. The “Electronic Thursday” performance will feature a special program by the band with elements of ambient and noise music.
