Manege To Join “Chekhov is Alive” Readings

Theatrical readings organized by Google, the Chekhov Moscow Art Theater and the Russian Book Union will be staged around the world on September 25.

The New Manege will join the international project called “Chekhov Is Alive” organized by Google, the Chekhov Moscow Art Theater, and the Russian Book Union. On September 25, our exhibition hall together with other venues in more than 20 cities across the world, from Cambridge to Hong Kong to Sakhalin, will host the theatrical online readings of literary works by Anton Chekhov, the famous Russian author and playwright. Classical literature will come together with contemporary theatre and technology to create a new digital format of the writer’s works.

For 24 hours, over 500 participants will be reading from more than 50 stories and plays by Chekhov during an event to be live-streamed on YouTube for users in all parts of the world.

On the night of the event, the New Manege will open its doors to everyone who appreciates Chekhov’s works.

Many prominent Russian actors, writers, musicians, sportsmen and politicians will take part, joining Oleg Tabakov, Renata Litvinova, Konstantin Khabensky, Igor Vernik, Nikolay Chindyaikin, Maksim Matveyev, Ilya Glinnikov, Timur Rodriguez, L’One, Nyusha, Bianka, Kate Clapp and others.

The readings in New Manege will begin late on September 25 to run till about midnight.

The “Chekhov Is Alive” project will be joined by remarkable venues in many cities in Russia and abroad, many of which have links to Chekhov’s legacy. After the project, you are welcome at a dedicated website to virtually “visit” Chekhov’s places, listen to the performances, revisit your favorite texts, and search for your favorite characters and reciters,” said Dmitry Kuznetsov, Country Marketing Director at Google Russia.

The project’s telecom partner, MegaFon, will provide hi-speed internet connection at all venues, including the New Manege.
