Opening ceremony – 17 December, 19.00
On December 16, a new exhibition titled “Longing and Launching” will open at the Manege Central Hall. The project will replay the history of the aerospace industry.
The exhibition will feature works addressing the major developments in the history of Russian cosmonautics, particularly, the first satellites launched around the Earth and the Moon, the first soft landing on the Moon, and the space pioneer, Yuri Gagarin. Also on display will be unique items from private archives kept by the families of those who are the key figures of the show.
The central role in the exposition belongs to the great engineers of the 20th century, the founding fathers of the Russian aerospace industry, namely, K. Tsiolkovsky, pioneer of the astronautic theory, V. Barmin, designer of the rocket launch complexes, A. Bogomolov, developer of radioastronomical complexes, V. Glushko, one of the pioneers of the aerospace technologies and liquid-fueled rocket engine construction; S. Korolyov, lead Soviet rocket engineer and the father of practical astronautics, V. Kuznetsov, designer of gyroscopic devices for the space industry; N. Pilyugin, designer of autonomous control systems for rocket and rocket launch complexes; M. Ryazansky, aerospace designer.
The project is a joint effort of the Creative Union of Professional Artists, the Museum of Cosmonautics in Moscow, the Serebrov Foundation for Youth Technology Talent, the “Constellation of Dreams” artistic union, the State Museum of the History of Cosmonautics in Kaluga, the Joint Memorial Museum of Yuri Gagarin, the Museum of the Military Academy of the Strategic Missile Forces, the Voluntary Association for Assistance to Army, Air Force and Navy (DOSAAF), the Memorial Museum of N. Zhukovski, Roskosmos State Corporation, and the Space Research Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
The official opening will take place on the third floor of the Manege Central Hall at 19.00 on December 17, 2015. The ceremony will bring together the members of the State Duma and the Federation Council, legendary cosmonauts and veterans of the aerospace industry, representatives of the federal ministries and state enterprises active in the sector, prominent designers and scientists, members of the Civic Chamber, presidents of Russia’s leading technology HEIs, and also the friends and families of the exhibition’s celebrated heroes.
