In 2016, the Manege Unit is continuing its project launched successfully last summer. Up Above Moscow is a cycle of music nights in a most advantageous location offering unique views of Moscow. In warm seasons, the performances are staged on the rooftop of the Worker and Kolkhoz Woman pavilion, at the footing of the iconic 24-meter sculpture. At all other times, the concerts are held on the fourth floor with admission to the rooftop during the break. The organizer of the project is the Manege Unit.
From Baroque to Jazz
20.00 – arrival of guests; 20.30 – performance
The Harp and Jazz ensemble was established in 2013 at the Ippolitov-Ivanov Music School where the band leaders both teach. They are Anton Kotikov (soprano saxophone, tenor saxophone, clarinet, flute, beatbox, mouth harp, and duduk) and harpist Maria Kulakova. Their debut came at the international contemporary music competition Composer of the 21st Century, followed by performances in the Metronom Jazz club and at the Orel Regional State Philharmonic.
The project’s repertoire includes original programs for a jazz ensemble with acoustic harp. The programs comprise works by Anton Kotikov, arrangements of jazz standards and popular tunes in different styles and directions (classics, blues, bossa nova, latino, ethno jazz, and world music). They have played live performances in various casts, from just duets of the harp and the winds to wider lineups including the harp, the winds, percussion, drums, the guitar, the double bass and vocals.
On March 16, the ensemble will perform pieces by George Frideric Handel, Claude Debussy, Astor Piazzolla, Chick Corea and also the band leader Anton Kotikov.
Anton Kotikov is a composer, arranger, multi-instrumentalist, teacher and producer. He is a winner of the All-Russian festival of flautists My Flute and a participant of many national and international jazz festivals including the Usadba Jazz, Street Fest 2010 and others.
Tickets are available at the box offices of the Worker and Kolkhoz Woman and online at the website of Manege and Voxxter.ru. The ticket price is 300 rubles and includes admission to the permanent exhibition on the first floor on the day of the performance.
