In 2016, the Manege Unit continues the project Up Above Moscow, a cycle of music nights in a most advantageous location offering unique views of Moscow. When it is warm, the performances are staged on the rooftop of the Worker and Kolkhoz Woman pavilion, at the footing of the iconic 24-meter sculpture. In cold seasons, the concerts are held on the fourth floor with admission to the rooftop during the break.
Igor Yakovenko is a Moscow-based pianist and composer performing jazz as well as classical, avant-garde and popular music. He studied at the Department of Historical and Contemporary Performing Arts of the Moscow State Tchaikovsky Conservatory (class of Prof. Yury Martynov, specialization – grand piano, harpsichord, hammerklavier) and the Maimonides State Classical Academy (class of Prof. I. Bril, People’s Artist of Russia).
His manner points at a profound classical background, and, as a jazz pianist, he makes the spontaneous material sound like in a program of Schubert or Brahms.
The program of the concert will include the trio’s original music and jazz standards of Charlie Parker, Herbie Hancock, Miles Davies and many others.
